Children’s Privacy & COPPA Notice
Last updated October 14, 2026
InstaMap is designed for collectors of all ages. Children under 13 may use InstaMap only through a parent- or guardian-managed child account created from a paid Family plan. Children cannot sign up on their own. This notice explains how we collect, use, and protect a child’s details under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
How child accounts are created
A parent or guardian makes each child account from their Family plan. They choose the child’s username and password. We do not ask for or collect the child’s email address. By making the account, the adult confirms they are the child’s parent or legal guardian and agrees to the child using InstaMap.
Verifiable parental consent
We check a parent’s consent in two ways. The parent pays for a Family plan online with their payment card. They also confirm their consent when they make the child account. We keep a dated record of this consent.
What we collect from a child
We collect only the details needed to run the child’s collection. These are the username and password set by the parent, the display name, date of birth, and items, photos, and Wishlist the child adds. The birth date helps us apply the right protections for their age. We do not require the child’s real name, email, address, or phone number.
How a child’s experience is protected
- Direct messaging is turned off for child accounts.
- Marketplace pricing is hidden; child accounts see a trade-only experience.
- A child cannot complete a purchase without a parent’s approval.
- We do not serve behavioral/targeted advertising to children and do not sell their information.
Parental rights
A parent can review their child’s personal details or ask us to delete them. They can stop us from collecting more by closing the child account at any time. Use Family settings or contact us. Closing the account deletes the child’s personal details, except for the few records we must keep for legal or security reasons.
